Brook Center Launching Body Gratitude Series
TJ Thompson | Editor-in-Chief
Over the next few weeks, The Brook Center will host a series of events designed to help students foster appreciation for what their bodies can do rather than how they look.
Some of the events include:
Pop-up gratitude murals in Kennedy Union, the RecPlex, and Roesch Library, where students can write what they are thankful for about their bodies.
A campus speaker event with Renee Engeln, award-winning professor of psychology at Northwestern University, where she conducts research exploring issues surrounding women’s body image.
Social media and campus features under the hashtag #FlyerFeelGood, spotlighting students and organizations who are spreading body-positive messages.
I spoke with Frances Hodes, a senior at the University of Dayton and a representative from The Brook Center, about the hopes for the campaign.
“Our goal is to encourage healthier relationships with body image, food, and exercise, while highlighting the resources and community support available through The Brook Center.”
