Editor of A&E gives her introduction

Hello! My name is Gabriella Bogart, and I am thrilled to introduce myself as Flyer News’ Arts and Entertainment Editor for the 2026-27 school year and as the Host of the Aerial View Podcast.
A brief introduction of myself, starting off strong with my year, major, and hometown: I’m entering my second year at Dayton; I’m a Communications major with a concentration in journalism, minors in fine art and political science, and I’m from Framingham, Massachusetts (I have no idea either how I found myself all the way out here in Ohio). I am the oldest of four, I have two golden retrievers who I could spend all day with, I’m both a workaholic and a procrastinator, I love coffee just a little bit less than my dogs (Dunkin medium iced regular with two cream, two french vanilla swirl), my favorite flower is hydrangea, my screen time is horrendous, and my favorite movies are Pitch Perfect and Baby Driver. That’s the icebreaker summary I would give you off the bat.
My biggest pet peeve with icebreakers is that you never truly get to know a person. So, one last thing about myself, on a slightly deeper level: I love to think. I love spending time alone, thinking, then wondering why I’m thinking what I’m thinking. I love the creation of thoughts and the path each one presents. The ability to think will forever astound me, hence why I spend so much time thinking in the first place. And all that time wasted thinking is exactly why I hate it. I hate that I can get so caught up in my thoughts that I forget what’s around me. I hate that a single thought can make or ruin my day. I hate feeling stuck, but knowing that I choose to feel stuck. I hate thinking. But, God, I love it so much. And I think that’s what fascinates me about writing. The idea that I can write out my thoughts, that having a personal writing style is encouraged, the idea that maybe my words and thoughts won’t reach everyone, but they’ll reach those who care. To me, writing feels as personal as it is professional. It is so important to establish a connection with your readers, to build credibility and the foundational trust required in any relationship, even that between a writer and a reader. It is the relational aspect of writing intertwined with professionalism that fascinates me and drives my passion for writing, and I hope to relay that to you throughout the next year.
I started working with the Flyer News team last year, hoping to start the podcast back up again. I worked with many different people both on and off the team, with several guests joining for episodes. I learned best how to relay information in a different medium than writing. This year, I am thrilled to officially join the Flyer News team not only as host of the Aerial View Podcast, but also as editor of the Arts and Entertainment section. Flyer News has brought nothing but blessings into my life, and I hope to help all of you readers feel the same.
With that being said, I have some goals for the incoming year. I want you, readers, first and foremost to feel informed, but I also want you to feel like you know me. I want to treat every story like what it is: a story. I want to utilize storytelling to the best of my ability, while ensuring that all information is true, accurate, and verified. Regarding the Arts and Entertainment section, I hope to include more articles on mass entertainment while consistently making sure you all know what is going on in the same field at Dayton. Regarding the Aerial View podcast, there is a lot more flexibility. We’ll cover so many different topics throughout the year, and I encourage all of you, readers and listeners, to reach out with any episode ideas per usual!
With that being said, I should probably get back to work, since I’m technically at my job right now, and that would suck if I got fired.
