DAYTON, Ohio – The University of Dayton has been discussing a proposed on-campus football stadium. While not much information is available regarding the proposal, initial reports indicate that it would be placed at the current location of Stuart Field.

UD provided an official statement saying, “The University of Dayton is fundraising for an on-campus stadium. This stadium initiative is being considered as a way to enhance the student experience, support our student-athletes at both the varsity and club levels, and provide a dedicated on-campus venue for various university and student activities. More details will be shared as the planning and fundraising process progresses.”

Currently, the football team plays its games at Welcome Stadium, right next to UD Arena. Welcome Stadium, however, is not owned by the university but rather by Dayton Public Schools. The stadium was built in 1949, and the Flyers played their first season there in 1974.

The proposal has drawn mixed emotions from fans and alumni online, as some regard the project as a positive addition to the student environment, while some do not see the purpose.

Despite the stadium proposal, as of 2024, the Flyers have no intention of leaving the Pioneer Football League for a conference that offers athletic scholarships.
