Safety Soars at UD: Empowering Students to Protect Each Other

The University of Dayton is taking a proactive step toward student well-being with a two-week campaign focused on safety and community responsibility in the student neighborhood. From Nov. 9 to 21, the Safety Soars at UD initiative will highlight practical tools, campus resources, and everyday habits that help keep students safe on and off campus.
Led by a team of communication students, the campaign addresses ongoing concerns about a false sense of security in the student neighborhood, an area open to both students and the public. By educating peers on resources such as the Flyer Safe app, blue light emergency phones, and Public Safety escorts, organizers hope to build awareness and encourage smarter decision-making.
Throughout the campaign, Safety Spotlight tables will be set up around campus to share safety guides, answer questions, and distribute snacks. Posters and infographics will be displayed throughout the neighborhood to remind students how to report suspicious activity and stay connected with campus police.
The team will also host a pizza event at Miriam Hall from 2 to 3:30 p.m. on Nov. 21, giving students the chance to learn about safety resources in a relaxed environment while enjoying free food.
“We want students to understand that safety isn’t just about rules, it’s about caring for one another,” said one campaign organizer. “By making safety visible, approachable, and part of everyday campus life, we hope to make the neighborhood a more secure and respectful place for everyone.”
Through awareness, collaboration, and shared responsibility, Safety Soars at UD encourages Flyers to lock their doors, look out for friends, and take ownership of their community.
