Dayton police officers arrested an 18-year-old male for felonious assault stemming from Saturday night’s shooting on the University of Dayton’s campus. He was released after his 1:45 p.m. court hearing on Nov. 4.
The suspect was arrested at 5:51 p.m. Sunday and was in custody at the Montgomery County Jail. He was charged with felonious assault, a second-degree felony. Official charges will be presented to the Montgomery County prosecutor’s office. Bail has not been set.
According to a message from Associate Vice President of Public Safety Savalas Kidd, Dayton PD is the lead agency in this case and is working with UD’s Department of Public Safety.
“Detectives will continue examining evidence and explore whether this event is related to other events on or near campus,” Kidd wrote in his campus-wide email. “The University will provide updates that will not compromise the investigation as appropriate.”
There is still no information regarding the student who was injured in the shooting. Despite no identification, UD officials, UD Public Safety, and Dayton PD say the student was recovering at the hospital and was surrounded by family.
Other news outlets have more information from responding officers. According to WHIO News, the injured student was a 19-year-old woman. She was treated by paramedics on the scene and transported to the hospital in an ambulance.
NOTE FROM FLYER NEWS: The individual arrested Nov. 2 for an alleged connection to the shooting was released after his initial court hearing. An email message from Spina on the morning of Nov. 5 said: “The joint investigation by the Dayton Police Department and UD Public Safety continues to make progress, and when releasing updates does not impede the investigation, Associate Vice President for Public Safety Savalas Kidd will continue to do so.”
As of Nov. 5, there is no suspect in custody. A town hall has been set for 6 p.m. in the Kennedy Union ballroom during the SGA meeting on Nov. 16.
