The Dayton Flyers football team announced their 2021 schedule on Friday, one day before their exhibition game against Ashland at Welcome Stadium.
With a start time of 1 p.m., Saturday’s exhibition game will be the first game the Flyers have played against outside competition since Nov. 23, 2019 — a 51-38 win over Butler.
After the game against Ashland, the Flyers will have to wait until Sept. 4 for their first regular season game in almost two years when they host Robert Morris.
The Flyers will then host Eastern Illinois Sept. 11 and travel to Carbondale, Ill. to face Southern Illinois and close their non-conference play Sept. 18.
Pioneer Football League (PFL) play will start the following Saturday (Sept. 25) at home against new league member Presbyterian. The Flyers will play their next two PFL games on the road against Morehead State (Oct. 2) and Drake (Oct. 9).
For the rest of the season, the Flyers will alternate home and away. Marist at home Oct. 16, at Valparaiso Oct. 23, Butler home Oct. 30, at Stetson Nov. 6, and Davidson home Nov. 13.
The Flyers will not play defending PFL champions San Diego or new members St. Thomas (Minn.) from Division III.
Dayton finished the 2019 season 8-3 overall and 6-2 in PFL play, finishing tied for second in league play.
