The university announced Monday the death of a student through a campus-wide email.
Justin Pressler, 21, died Saturday after a traffic accident near his home in Northville, Michigan.
Pressler was a junior electrical engineering major and member of the Sustainability Club, according to the email.
“We extend our deepest sympathy and prayers to Justin’s family, friends, professors and our campus community,” the email read. “We pray for comfort and peace for each of you.”
UD Campus Ministry held a memorial gathering for Pressler on Monday in the Chapel of the Immaculate Conception. Those who attended were invited to write about their memories of Pressler to be shared with his family.
John Petry, a therapist at the Counseling Center, shared his thoughts on grief and encouraged those who are mourning Pressler’s loss to reach out to campus resources for support.
“Let our gathering be a symbol of the community of support that we share with one another,” said University Chaplain Fr. Bob Jones during the gathering. “Please remember that campus ministry staff, those in the Counseling Center, professors and other staff are here to be with you and accompany you, and that it is very okay to ask for help.”
Student resources are available here at Flyer Families. Support services include Campus ministers, the dean of students office, housing and residence life, and counseling staff.
Information on funeral services for Justin will be posted on Porches when available.
A recording of the gathering is available on the Campus Ministry YouTube channel.
