The University of Dayton has scheduled Alcorn State for their official season opener at 7 p.m. on Dec. 1, replacing their cancelled match-up against Bellarmine.
The Alcorn State Braves finished 15-15 in 2019-20, and will start their season against a Flyers team that is coming off a historic 29-2 season. They replace Bellarmine, who went into a pause because of COVID-19 tests.
Alcorn State welcomes 11 newcomers: eight transfers, two freshmen and head coach Landon Bussie, who spent the last six seasons as an assistant at another Southwestern Athletic Conference school, Prairie View A&M.
The Flyers open their schedule with an exhibition game against Cedarville on Saturday at 2 p.m. In an exhibition game last year, the Flyers beat the Yellow Jackets 93-60.
The Flyers open with four home games – Cedarville exhibition on Nov. 28, Alcorn State on Dec. 1, SMU on Dec. 5 and Purdue-Fort Wayne on Dec. 8.
A neutral site match-up against Mississippi State in Atlanta on Dec. 12 is next, before coming home for one more non-conference game against Ole Miss on Dec. 19. The Flyers begin their Atlantic 10 schedule against La Salle at UD Arena Dec. 30.
For now, fan capacity will be capped at 300 spectators.
