Men’s Basketball: The final stretch begins

Four teams will get a bye into the quarterfinals of the Atlantic 10 Conference tournament, which will be held March 13 through March 16 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y.

After a 1-5 start, the University of Dayton men’s basketball team has played its way to an opportunity to finish in the top four in the conference and get one of those byes.

With improved play, Dayton has seen the rest of the field falling back toward them. Heading into play Wednesday, Feb. 19, second through eighth positions in the conference standings were separated by only three games.

Those teams are listed in the graphic to the right, and their positions in the standings are listed below.

Saint Louis University has pulled ahead of the pack as far as winning the regular season title, but the next three spots beneath them in the standings also get a game off in the postseason tournament.

Dayton has played its way into an opportunity at getting a bye, but a challenging road awaits.
