The University of Dayton announced the creation of a new campus master plan through a post on Porches on Jan. 12. According to the press release, the goal is to maintain and improve the campus of UD as a “premier place to learn, live and discover.”

UD has partnered with Ayers Saint Gross, a design firm with expertise in building design, renovations, planning, landscape architecture, and graphic design.

The collaboration with UD seems to be a match made in heaven. On their website, the firm says, “Our campus planning studio creates holistic strategies that help campuses evolve into more functional, inspiring, and sustainable places over time,” which mirrors UD’s own goals of educating the whole person, not just the student.

The firm will work with university leadership, faculty, staff, students, and community partners over the next 13 months to create a framework for future academic, residential, research, and community spaces. The final product will serve as a guide for campus development for the next 10–20 years.

The press release said the planning process will explore ways to improve the campus experience, strengthen connectivity and accessibility, and support enrollment while prioritizing responsible stewardship of university resources. The master plan will act as a “guide” for future decisions and investments rather than a blueprint that must be followed.

The university will hold on-site data-gathering sessions open to students and community members from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 21, in the RecPlex lobby and from noon to 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 22, in the Kennedy Union lobby.
