University of Dayton Men’s Soccer Senior, Kingsford Adjei, was selected by the New York City Football Club in the second round of the 2022 MLS SuperDraft on Jan 11.

“Thank you @nycfc for giving me the opportunity to take my game to the next level and inspire others,” Adjei wrote in an Instagram post. “The pursuit of excellence is a lifestyle and it’s time to work even harder than ever. Excited for this challenge and looking forward to what the future holds.”

Adjei was picked 56th overall and was the 28th pick in the second round. The former Flyer finished his senior season this past fall where he was named the Atlantic-10 First Team for the third year in a row.

During his senior season, Adjei led the team with 13 points and had a team high of 46 shots and 20 shots on goal.

Adjei finished his career with 21 goals in 36 career starts and was a two-time A-10 Midfielder of the Year.

With Adjei’s selection to the NYC Football Club, he will be the second Flyer in the past two straight years to be drafted. Former teammate Jonas Fjeldberg was chosen by F.C. Cincinnati last year.

Adjei is from Old Akrade, Ghana, where he attended the Right to Dream Academy. He was captain of the soccer team that he participated in for five years. Adjei earned ALL-GLVC Second Team accolades and was named Right to Dream Academy Student of the Year.

The University of Dayton community is excited to continue to support Kingsford on his professional soccer career.
