#WeeklyRundown: Week of April 13 to April 18

Baseball

The Flyboys started off strong last week with a 6-0 win over Ohio State on Tuesday night at the Dragon’s Stadium. 

Dayton students flooded the Flyer to head to the game, breaking the attendance record with a total of 3,859 fans in the stadium. 

The crowd erupted after junior Keagan Calero hit the first home run of the game putting the Flyers in the lead 1-0. Later in the weekend, Calero suffered a facial injury after being struck by a pitch. 

On Thursday the team headed to Fordham University winning their first game 10-4 before falling to the Rams at the end of the weekend. (2-6, 2-8). 

Men’s Golf

The men’s golf team closed out their regular season schedule at Penn State this weekend at the Rutherford Intercollegiate. 

Ryan Clements has shown success over the last four events as the flyer’s top finisher, coming in 15th overall. 

Dayton ended in 7th out of 14 teams.

Men’s Tennis

The men’s tennis team ended their regular season schedule on Wednesday with a loss against Butler in Indianapolis. The team will enter the Atlantic 10 Championship 14-7 on the season. 

Senior Steven Karl and junior Matt DeMarco continue to prove their dominance on the court in doubles play with a win over Butler’s Michael Dickson and Drew Michael. 

The second doubles point was snatched by senior Joe DeMarco and sophomore Ronit Hiryur (6-3). 

Women’s Golf

The women’s golf team also ended their regular season schedule at IUPUI placing fourth out of seven at the Jaguar Invitational.  

Hailey Tanis led the team finishing fifth overall, her first career top-five finish with career-low rounds. 

The Flyers will head to Orlando Florida for a three-day conference tournament on Disney’s Magnolia Golf Course. 

Women’s Rowing

The Rowing team had an incredible weekend at the SIRA Championships on Friday and Saturday.

The Flyers advanced to the finals with three races for each boat with every boat improving after each race. 

In the Varsity 4+ final, Dayton took the lead with a time of 8:21.721s consisting of Jessie Stranen, Maddy Hales, Emily Mann, Lila Acott and Madalynn Duffy. 

Softball

The softball team started the weekend off on the right foot with a 1-0 victory over Saint Louis on Friday, their fourth A-10 win of the season. 

They fell 2-4 in the second game and then wrapped up the weekend with a 4-3 win on Saturday. 

Emma Schutter snatched her second home run of the season and was 3-for-4 at the plate, along with Ali Weekley. 

Kaelene Walter showed success on the field this weekend scoring the game-winning run with two hits, two RBI and two putouts. 

The Flyers will head into their conference bye week hosting Purdue Fort Wayne tomorrow at home. 

Track and Field

The Flyers competed at the Cherry Blossom Invitational at Ohio University this weekend finishing in second place overall. 

It was a successful meet for the field events with Luisa Himmler setting a new personal best in javelin throwing 39.90m. Grace Homan finished fourth in the shot put with a PR throw of 14.11m. 

Christierra Cici Williams and Kelly McCloughan showed success in the jumping events. Williams placed second in the long jump and McCloughan snatched a second-place finish in the triple jump.

On the sprints side, the Flyers took the victory in the 4x100m relay consisting of Rayana Burns, Kaira Granger, Lauren Santiago and Chante Clinkscale hitting a time of 48.11s. Santiago led the Flyers in the 200m dash with a time of 26.02s. 

Abby Carter and Zoe Chappelle dominated the distance events both winning their events outright. 

Carter ran a 3000m in a personal record time of 9:47.19 and Chappelle saw success in the 5000m running a time of 17:47.46s. 

The Flyers will finish out their regular season schedule at Indiana University this weekend.
