Four straight wins for UD volleyball to open Atlantic 10 play

The Dayton Flyers volleyball team has won 12 of 13 sets in their first four games in Atlantic 10 play to improve to 4-0 in the A10 and 10-5 overall.

Wins on the road over George Washington (3-1) and George Mason (3-0) set the stage before wins over Duquesne on the road (3-0) and at home (3-0). 

Redshirt freshman Lexie Almodovar led the way against George Washington (25-19, 25-20, 22-25, 25-18_ with 14 kills and five service aces, and freshman Alyssa Miller added 12 assists while senior Maura Collins totaled 12 digs.

Against George Mason (25-19, 28-26, 25-15), redshirt junior Jamie Peterson racked up 19 kills and 10 digs, while Collins had a match-high 17 digs.

In the first match-up against Duquesne (25-12, 25-21, 25-20), Collins tallied 18 digs, Almodovar added 13 kills, and Peterson and redshirt freshman Alayna Yates contributed 9 kills each. 

The Flyers’ latest A10 win over Duquesne (25-17, 25-18, 25-16) was boosted by Peterson (14 kills) and Almodovar (13 digs), along with redshirt sophomore Amelia Moore with 10 kills.

Currently, the Flyers are even with Saint Louis at the top of the A10 standings at 4-0. Next up, the Flyers have a long home stretch at the Frericks Center as they host VCU (Oct. 7), Davidson (Oct. 9), Saint Louis (Oct. 10), Rhode Island (Oct. 15) and Fordham (Oct. 17), with a non-conference home game against Xavier (Oct. 13) in-between the A10 home games. 

NOTE: Due to the current City of Dayton mask mandate, fans are required to wear masks completely over their nose and mouth throughout their time in Frericks Center (including the gym) unless actively eating or drinking.
