Dayton Softball has another busy weekend ahead, as they travel to Ohio State University to take part in the Ohio Collegiate Charity Classic on Saturday before returning home to face the DePauw Tigers on Sunday morning.
The Flyers are slated to play two games on Saturday, Sept. 29, in the charity classic. The Flyers begin the day at 10:30 a.m. against the Bowling Green Falcons (4-0), who are coming off a weekend in which they outscored Hillsdale College by a combined 14-2 in a doubleheader sweep. Following the game against Bowling Green, the Flyers will take on the Miami RedHawks (2-0) at 12:45 p.m. Both games will take place at Fred Beekman Park, located on Ohio State University’s campus.
They then return home on Sunday, Sept. 30, to host the DePauw Tigers. The game will start at 11 a.m. at UD Softball Stadium.
The Flyers are coming off a weekend in which they split a doubleheader against University of Findlay before hosting the Flyers Fall Classic; tying Thomas More and defeating Sinclair Community College to finish their opening weekend with a 2-1-1 record.
With two high-scoring teams in Bowling Green and Miami (Ohio) awaiting the Flyers on Saturday, senior pitcher Jessica Gilliam and junior pitcher Jessica Weaver look to rise to the occasion and fill the void left by the stud pitcher and graduated Manda Cash. Gilliam and Weaver return after a season in which they combined for a 15-16 record, 124 strikeouts and a 3.65 ERA as the second and third starting pitchers on last year’s team.
At the plate, senior catcher Kyle Davidson will lead the charge; hoping to continue her success from last season. Davidson led the Flyers in multiple hitting categories including a .351 batting average, to go along with 61 hits, 19 doubles and 17 stolen bases; all of which were team highs.
