Dayton’s women volleyball team played an impressive game against Wright State last night at home, winning 3 sets in a row.

The Flyers started off the first set with consistent hits to the back corner, specifically freshman Alayna Yates. As a middle, she succeeded multiple times hitting deep around the block.

Davidson’s back row was the main reason they were able to stay close in the first half, but overall lacked offensive skills. Dayton’s consistent blocks and kills were the major source of their points, winning it 25-18 with a tip to the center.

Serving was crucial in the second set, and multiple aces allowed the Flyers to get a big lead early on. Junior libero Maura Collins had a great floater, resulting in an ace that made the score 17-8.

Even with new players in and out, Dayton kept doing what worked from the beginning. Winning 25-11, the middle hitters were extremely effective in the first two sets. Davidson had too many errors, while the Flyers limited their own.

The third set was an easy win with junior Jamie Peterson consistently putting points down. She continued to have multiple kills in the deep corner, eliciting a timeout for the Wildcats when she made the score 17-8.

Davidson started showing more offense in the final set, but using their outside everytime the pass was off was too predictable. The Flyers did a great job moving around, and everyone had the chance to play and show off the diversity in Dayton’s skill set.

A hit off Davidson’s right side block allowed the women to win 25-13, ending with a hitting percentage of .364 for the entire night.

Dayton’s women’s volleyball repeatedly shows up ready to go, and play again tonight at 5:00pm against VCU.
