Solar Eclipse 2017: Read This Before Looking Up

Student Development has purchases certified eclipse glasses and will be distributing them to students, faculty and staff for free, according to udayton.edu.

Glasses will be available while supplies last starting at 9 a.m. Monday, first-come, first-serve at these locations:

Founders Hall front desk 
Marianist Hall front desk
Marycrest Hall front desk
Stuart Complex front desk
VWK Hall front desk
Campus South front desk
461 Kiefaber Ave.
Kennedy Union information desk
Library: Roesch Event check-in desk

Remember, it is dangerous for your vision and potentially damaging to your phone or CCD camera to take unfiltered photos of the sun anytime during this event. 

Initial Story–

The country will be able to witness the Great American Eclipse in just two weeks.

For University students and Dayton locals, the solar eclipse will begin right after 1 p.m. on Aug. 21.

The moon will take nearly three hours to cross the face of the sun, from one side to the other.

Other cities in America will see a total eclipse but Dayton will only have a partial eclipse.

NASA has advised buying goggles that “meet the ISO 12312-2 international standard,” from manufacturers such as, “Rainbow Symphony, American Paper Optics, Thousand Oaks Optical, and TSE 17.”

These goggles can be purchased online.
