Flyer News awarded 5 recognitions from the Catholic Press Association

On May 15, the Catholic Press Association (CPA) announced its annual Catholic Media Awards and awarded Flyer News with second place for “Best University Publication.”
This honor comes after receiving a second-place honor for “Best Newspaper” for four-year institutions with a student enrollment between 5,000 and 10,000 from the College Media Association’s 2020 David L. Adams Apple Awards.
Along with the second-place award, individual staff members placed in specialized categories.
- Opinions Editor Mary McLoughlin received the first-place award for social justice writing with her piece titled “Detention Centers Or Concentration Camps: Reflections From El Paso’s Holocaust Museum.”
- Print Editor-in-Chief Griffin Quinn and Layout Editor Chey Ward teamed up to earn a first-place recognition for “Best Front Page” for the Nov. 6, 2019, cover of the annual basketball preview edition.
- Online Editor-in-Chief Sean Newhouse, Sports Editor Michael Crouchley and Quinn were awarded with a second-place recognition for “Best Multimedia Package” for their efforts on the piece “Dayton Men’s Basketball Falls in Overtime Heartbreaker to Familiar Foe Colorado Buffaloes.”
- Crouchley also took home third place for the category “Best Writing ― Single Sports Story” for his Oct. 2019 article, “UD Men’s Soccer Players Leave Team, Criticize Culture.”
