Black Box Improv Theater Feeds Guests Some Good Laughs

Saturday brought another excellent show from the comedy improviser at the Black Box Improv Theater in Dayton.

Beginning with “The Appetizer” show, as they call it, the performers put on “The Stake Out,” a completely improvised series of scenes created from audience suggestions or personal experience.

This weekend’s show resulted in a hilarious bit about Sasquatch that evolved into a scene featuring a pair of concerned parents trying to care for the child — an orange.

You can catch these “you-had-to-be-there” scenes every Saturday from 8 – 9 p.m., right outside Downtown Dayton.

Moving on, the “The Main Course,” performers stepped up to the challenge that is “Artificial Intelligence,” in which improvisers and scripted actors take the stage together.

During this segment, the actors are not allowed to stray from their scripts, while improvisers must try to complete the scene without any prior knowledge of what the scripts say. The result is a hilarious trainwreck of sometimes sensical but always entertaining dialogue.

Black Box offers shows from 8 – 10 p.m., Wednesday through Saturday, with a variety of different twists from improvised musicals to courtroom drama with a real life prosecutor.
