Shooting at Abundant Life Christian School Results in Multiple Deaths

At 10:57 a.m. on Monday, Wisconsin police responded to a shooting that resulted in several casualties and injuries. Initial reports gave conflicting information about the initial death toll. However, as the investigation into the shooting continued, the police are now reporting that a teacher and student have tragically died and six more are injured. Two of the six individuals are in critical condition with life-threatening injuries. 

In the incident report, one of the responding officers stated, “Multiple injuries have been reported. This remains an active and ongoing investigation. More information will be released as it is available.”

The police in Madison, WI said that the suspected shooter, a female juvenile, was found dead upon police arrival. No officers reported firing their weapons. The Chief officer reported that the shooting occurred in a confined space, but has yet to elaborate on if it was confined to a classroom or hallway. The suspect’s motives are still unclear. 

The local police worked diligently throughout the day to reunite the students and staff with their families. Abundant Life Christian School has about 390 students from kindergarten through 12th grade, fostering a community of over 200 families. The school has since been cleared by authorities. 

This tragedy received speedy responses from elected officials. WI Governor Tony Evers stated, “I am closely monitoring the incident at Abundant Life Christian School in Madison. We are praying for the kids, educators, and entire Abundant Life school community as we await more information and are grateful for the first responders who are working quickly to respond.” 

Senator Ron Johnson also took to social media to state, “My sincere condolences and prayers for all the victims of the tragedy at Abundant Life Christian School. I will continue to closely monitor the situation.”

President Joe Biden has come out in a statement calling the incident “shocking and unconscionable,” and used the moment to call upon Congress for legislative action.
