The University of Dayton’s women’s basketball team showed up and showed out in an away game against the Saint Louis Billikens.
The Flyers made sure to show their skill by ending each quarter by maintaining a steady lead. Couple this with no points being scored by the opposing team for nearly five minutes in the fourth quarter and it’s clear that the Flyers dominated on both offense and defense.
This was no easy fought battle however, with Saint Louis University frequently staying within a one or two score game.
After the start of the game, the Flyers were able to maintain a three-point lead. Throughout the first quarter, the turnover rate was five-to-one in favor of the Flyers.
The biggest lead of the game came in the second quarter with the help of graduate student Jenna Giacone. Her layup shot followed by a three pointer prompted the Billikens to call for a time out with a little over five minutes left in the second quarter.
The Billikens would then go on to score six points, tying the game 29 to 29 with a little over a minute left before the half.
The Flyers were able to close out the half by a lead of one with the score being 31 to 30. The team then came out screaming for the third quarter with a nine point lead.
The Billikens then went four of five gaining a three point lead making the score 38 to 35 halfway through the quarter.
The Flyers would go on a ten point streak, making the score 48 to 44 by the end of the quarter. The women dominated in the fourth quarter by not only maintaining a lead, but streaking the lead by seven with a score of 56 to 49 towards the middle of the quarter.
That lead would stretch even further to 11 with the score being 63 to 52. The Flyers would end the game with a cumulative lead of 15, with the final score resulting as 69 to 54.
With this victory against the Billikens, Dayton’s Women’s Basketball team proves their placement in the Atlantic-10 standings.
