The Dayton Flyers men’s basketball team added sophomore forward Toumani Camara when the 6-foot-8 Belgium native committed to UD on Thursday.

Camara was ranked No. 11 by The Athletic in their top 50 available players in the transfer portal (or unsigned freshman), and brings plenty of experience in one of the top conferences in college basketball.

In his freshman year at Georgia, Camara played in 32 games, starting 23. Of those 32 games played, one was against the Flyers in the 2019 Maui Invitational, when he scored 7 points, grabbed 2 rebounds and 2 steals.

Throughout the rest of his freshman year, Camara averaged 6.6 points and 4.3 rebounds per game while shooting 49.4 percent from the field.

Camara took a step forward in his sophomore season, starting all 25 games and averaging 12.8 points per game on 48.6 percent shooting. He led the Bulldogs with 7.7 rebounds per game, and also averaged about 1 steals per game.

With the Flyers, Camara will likely fall into the starting lineup right away. Although only senior guard Rodney Chatman, redshirt senior forward Jordy Tshimanga and freshman guard Luke Frazier have announced their intention to leave or graduate, senior guards Jalen Crutcher and Ibi Watson are expected to move on.

At the guard position, rising seniors Dwayne Cohill (pending a full recovery from his season-ending ACL tear) and Christian Wilson, and fellow transfer Elijah Weaver will be backed up by rising sophomores Koby Brea and R.J. Blakney.

With Camara at forward, Blakney can also move to the position, and rising sophomore Mustapha Amzil and redshirt sophomore Zimi Nwokeji will supplement Camara at forward.

Rising redshirt sophomore center Moulaye Sissoko would fill the traditional five spot.

Finally, Camara will enter the team alongside the Flyers’ top 20 recruiting class, which includes four-star recruit DaRon Holmes, and three-stars Lynn Greer IIIKaleb Washington and Malachi Smith.
