College Football: Week Two Rundown

It’s really starting to feel like football season. With the NFL in full swing and the second slate of college games arriving, it’s safe to say the cravings of a long offseason have been satisfied.
Aside from a select few games that really got the heart racing, it was a rather quiet week two of college football.
Seventh-ranked Michigan was taken into double overtime by an unranked Army team who struggled last week to get by Rice, arguably the worst FBS team. Definitely a scary sight for Michigan fans, but Big Blue prevailed pulling off the 24-21 win.
In other top-25 news, sixth-ranked Louisiana State University (LSU) and ninth-ranked Texas matched up for the weekend’s marquee matchup. Neither team disappointed. The teams combined scored 39 points in the fourth quarter, but LSU ultimately beat Texas 45-38. Joe Burrow burrowed his way into the Heisman conversation by posting 471 yards passing along with four touchdowns on the primetime stage.
In the SEC versus ACC matchup between Texas A&M and Clemson, which saw both teams ranked inside the top 15, it was a rather one-sided affair. Clemson held on to a comfortable 24-10 win over the Aggies on Saturday night, showing why Clemson owns the number one ranking.
Two lower ranked top-25 teams got a rough wake-up call in week two, with 21st-ranked Syracuse getting absolutely run over by the unranked Maryland Terrapins. Syracuse fell 63-20. Pac-12 action saw 14th-ranked Washington drop a conference game to California in nail-biting fashion as they fell 20-19 to the Golden Bears.
For the rest of the top-25, it was a cake walk of a week with blowouts peppering the Top-25 scoreboard on ESPN.
And last but certainly not least, the Dayton Flyers Football team, who play in the FCS, took down the 14th-ranked Indiana State Bulldogs by a score of 45-38 to move to 1-0 on the season.
Looking forward to week three in college football, here’s the slate of games to keep an eye out for.
#1 Clemson vs Syracuse – This game may not appear competitive on paper, however, Syracuse came as close as anyone to dethroning the Tigers last season. Can they show up again?
#9 Florida vs Kentucky – This will be top-10 Florida’s first SEC test of the season against a solid Kentucky squad. Can Kentucky pull off the upset like they did last year?
#13 Penn State vs Pittsburgh – Interstate rivalries can be tricky for some teams that aren’t Ohio State, but can Pitt march into Beaver Valley and play upset to the Nittany Lions like they have in the past?
