Thursday afternoon, the FBI released images of the person of interest, who is believed to be the man responsible for killing Charlie Kirk yesterday at his event in Utah. The FBI also found the rifle, which is believed to be the weapon used in the assassination.
The FBI Salt Lake City office posted on X saying, “We are asking for the public’s help identifying the person of interest in connection with the fatal shooting of Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University.” Along with this statement, the FBI also released two images of the suspect wearing a baseball cap and sunglasses.
There is a $100,000 reward for information leading to the identification and arrest of the person responsible. There was intended to be a press update with law enforcement, but it was postponed due to “rapid developments” in the case.
The weapon that is believed to have been used to kill Kirk is a high-powered bolt-action rifle that was found in a wooded area near campus, wrapped in a towel. Police also revealed that there was writing on the ammunition cartridges that is described as “transgender and anti-fascist.”
Authorities are still trying to interpret what this means, an option being that these writings were used to misdirect law enforcement away from the suspect.
