University of Dayton Police Investigate Bomb Threat Reported at Caldwell Apartments

The University of Dayton’s Department of Public Safety alerted the campus community Thursday after a bomb threat was reported by a resident of Caldwell Apartments.
UD Public Safety and the Dayton Police Department immediately launched an investigation, and the officers were assisted by an explosive-detection dog. After searching Caldwell apartments, they found nothing of concern. UD police will continue patrolling the building throughout the day, but residents are not required to take additional action.
In recent months, UD Public Safety has been responding to an increase in safety concerns on campus. Several incidents have been reported, including encounters with individuals unaffiliated with the university. For example, a report involving an unhoused woman near St. Joseph’s Hall prompted a meeting led by Communication Department Chairman Chad Painter to address safety concerns in this area. Other incidents included reports of individuals acting suspiciously, such as a man in camo carrying a large bag and another individual asking students for personal information under the guise of an internship program. In response, Public Safety has emphasized the importance of a cooperative approach to campus safety, encouraging students, faculty, and staff to report any unusual activity to ensure a secure environment for the community.
The university urges anyone observing suspicious or criminal behavior to call the UD Department of Public Safety dispatcher at 937-229-2121.
