Students Say They Are Happy to be Back on Campus

Winter break was an exciting time for many UD students. Many spent time with family and friends. Christmas traditions were an important part of the time away for some.

“On Christmas Eve we always have a cookie party,” said Logan Foody, a senior. We go over to my sister’s house and make homemade pizzas followed by decorating sugar cookies.”

Zlotnik spoke about Christmas-themed games.

“You tie a candy cane to the end of a string and then around your waist and have to hook candy canes from a plate to another plate,” Zlotnik said.

Other students spent time catching up with friends. Senior Aiden McKinley played Xbox, went bowling, and watched movies with his friends.

“I’m a decent bowler, I’m not advanced but every once in a while, I like to go with my friends,” he said.

Sports were also a notable way to spend time during winter break. Zlotnik, a lifelong Bengals fan, went to Paycor Stadium in Cincinnati for the Bengals-Browns game.

Plattner visited downtown Cincinnati for the Flyers game at a neutral site against the University of Cincinnati, a loss for the Flyers.

“I grew up going to UC games so it’s hard to not cheer for them,” Plattner said, explaining why he rooted for the Bearcats.

Students also have goals in mind for spring semester. Most set the goal of getting better grades and making the dean’s list to finish off the year. Others highlighted enjoying time with their friends before graduating or going home for summer break. Still others mentioned securing a job or having an internship lined up for after the semester.

Plattner, an offensive lineman on the UD football team, said one of his goals is set with an eye on another season in uniform: “One goal I have is to get stronger and faster for football.”

NOTE: Miller, Dufour and Nulph are enrolled in the Flyer News Practicum, offered through the
Department of Communication. The Practicum is set up to give students who have an interest in
the media arts the opportunity to gain practical skills in reporting, interviewing and writing. The
goal is to help students produce publishable articles for FlyerNews.com, the independent online
student publication.
