Editor-in-Chief

Kerry Kadel – Senior, English (Creative Writing)

Kerry is from Dayton, Ohio, starting her senior year at UD. She is an English major with a Creative Writing minor and a focus in Self-Design. She first discovered Flyer News her freshman year and became a contributing writer before joining the team officially her junior year. Kerry enjoys writing manuscripts, photography, and drawing in her free time. She grabs inspiration from anywhere and for anything, including her articles. She is excited to be leading a team of wonderful writers and creative minds.


Managing Editor

Terrance White – Senior, Communication Management, Marketing, Public Relations

Terrance White is a senior from Glen Ellyn, Illinois majoring in Communication Management and double minoring in Marketing and Public Relations. Terrance has had multiple leadership positions at UD including Phi Beta Chi, The Interfraternity Council, and The Public Relations Student Society of America. Fun fact he loves brands and advertising. Have you ever seen a commercial that you enjoyed or an Instagram post from a brand that you like? Odds are that Terrance probably knows the ad agency that made it. This past summer he had an Internship with EnergyBBDO in Chicago where he advertised for brands like Jack Daniel’s, Woodford Reserve, and Old Forrester. Terrance believes that the work is better when people are placed in communities and environments where they are allowed to be creative and their most authentic selves. He’s excited to bring this same mentality to Flyer News giving it a new feel. 


News Editor

Rachel Smith – Junior, English (Self-Design in Technical and Creative Writing)

Rachel is from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and is starting her junior year at Dayton. She is an English major with a self-design concentration in technical and creative writing. Around campus, she is the Assistant Literary Editor for Orpheus Art and Literary Magazine, President of Student Advocating for Gender Equity, and is a member of the English Student Advisory Board. She is an active member of Kappa Delta Sorority where she is the Sergeant at Arms and serves on the DEI Committee. Outside of school, Rachel loves listening to “Dad Rock,” burning fall-scented candles (no matter the season), and rereading her favorite novels.


Sports Editor

TJ Thompson – Junior, Communication (Journalism), Entrepreneurship

TJ is from Mansfield, Ohio, and he is starting his junior year at Dayton. He is a communication major with a concentration in journalism and an entrepreneurship minor. On Dayton’s campus, he is involved in the business fraternity Epsilon Nu Tau. TJ’s passion for sports writing started during his sophomore year when he took his first media writing class. This class pushed him to join Flyer News and become an assistant sports editor. These experiences have allowed TJ to grow as a writer and reporter.  He is excited to cover UD sports for Flyer News this school year


Opinion Editor

James Tong-Senior, Communication (Journalism), Sports Communication

James is a senior from Hudson, Ohio and is starting his senior year at Dayton. He’s a Communication major with a concentration on Journalism and Sports Communication. On campus, he’s involved in Asian American Association, Club Tennis and is an officer for Club Pickleball. James’s passion for writing came his sophomore year when a close friend recommended he combine his passion for sports with his ability to write. After his first class with Professor Alaimo, he’s never looked back and has since begun to look at law school.


Arts & Entertainment Editor

Bryce Russell- Senior, English, Communication Management

Bryce is a senior from Louisville, Kentucky and is majoring in both English and Communication Management. At UD, he is involved in Phi Beta Chi Honors Communication Fraternity, Orpheus Art and Literary Magazine, Model UN, and is a student journalist for the UD Magazine. He has been writing for as long as he can remember, and enjoys music journalism as well as creative writing.


Social and Digital Media Coordinator

Olivia Shirk- Senior, Communication (Public Relations), Photography, Political Science

Olivia is from Downers Grove, Illinois, and is starting her senior year at Dayton. She is studying communication with a concentration in public relations and has a minor in political science. On UD’s campus, she is the Vice President of Communication for the Panhellenic Council and is a part of Zeta Tau Alpha. Olivia’s love for photography started when her parents gifted her a pink point-and-shoot camera for her 7th birthday, and the rest was history. This is Olivia’s second year on staff and is excited to take on the role of social media as well. She cannot wait for another season of UD basketball and to capture the school year for Flyer News. 


Podcast Manager

Anel Solares – Senior, Communication (Journalism), Media Production

Anel is a senior communication major with a concentration in journalism and a minor in media production, and she is from Chicago, Illinois. When she’s not recording podcasts, she works with the Marketing & Communication department at UD to film silly TikTok’s and boost the brands social media presence. She is involved in organizations within the Multi-ethnic Education and Engagement Center on campus, and celebrates her Latinidad everywhere she goes. She enjoys writing poetry, photography, painting, and creating millions of playlists for nearly every genre of music. She has a passion for storytelling and a drive to capture the nuance of the human experience with empathy as the bridge.


Graphic Designer

Kevin Figueroa – Senior, Graphic Design

Kevin is a senior from Hendersonville, Tennessee. He is a graphic design major who likes to make things happen from zero. He focuses on illustrations and advertisements; he also loves to paint and play sports. He currently plays for the Men’s Club soccer team here at UD. He became a graphic designer because he really liked painting and doing digital designs during High School. He is excited to be part of this amazing team at Flyer News.


Advertising Associate

Katie Costello – Senior, Marketing, Media Production

Katie is a senior marketing major with a minor in media production from Long Island, NY. On campus, she serves as the Director of New Member Education for Pi Beta Phi. She enjoys her summer job at the beach, cooking, watching and playing sports, and spending time with her family. She also loves playing with her golden retriever, Bailey.


Website Technician

Alexis Lane – Senior, Computer Science

Alexis is from Rochester, NY and is a senior at UD. She is a computer science major with goals to become a software engineer post-graduation. At UD Alexis is a member of the Society of Women Engineers and has a passion for encouraging young women to pursue STEM fields! Her passion for technology began when she took her first computer science course freshman year of high school and has continued ever since. In her free time Alexis enjoys skiing, reading, spending time with her friends and family, being active, time on the lake, and listening to all kinds of music. She is so excited to be part of Flyer News for the first time this year.
