ENOUGH!: UD Students Rally Together For The #NationalSchoolWalkout
Wednesday, students bundled up and braced the snowy weather to participate in the #NationalSchoolWalkout, a movement protesting gun violence and calling for change. This demonstration falls one month after a gunman killed 17 people in at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.
Approximately 100 UD students, faculty and staff gathered and stood at KU fountain to show their support. The student-led movement, sponsored by UD College Democrats, invited the community to gather, starting at 10 a.m. They stood in solidarity for 17 minutes, symbolizing each life lost in the recent Parkland shooting.
The event began with a prayer in memoriam to the lives lost in the recent shooting and other gun violence incidents. Student Thomas Pedrotti continued the event calling for change and encouraging members of the walkout to share stories or voice their opinions.
“Because of the mass gun violences that plague America, I have a lot to say about what we can do about it and how it’s affected our people,” Pedrotti said. “We need change.”

UD’s Vote Everywhere representatives Katherine Liming and Pat Benn were in attendance with voter registration forms, encouraging students to register to vote.
“We’re here because there are students here that are engaged and want to make a change,” Liming said. “We want to make sure they’re registered so they can have their voices heard on issues like this in primary and general elections.”
