What to do in Dayton this spring
With spring on the horizon, there’s no better time to start brainstorming some fun and fresh activities to do in Dayton, photo of shopping in Luna Gifts & Botanicals.

We’ve made it! The winter months are almost over and spring is just around the corner. There is a certain joy in the air as campus begins to come back to life with students enjoying 60 degree weather from their porches and students hammocking at Stuart Hill. Luckily, I have some great ideas for you to shake off your winter blues and head into spring with a fresh start.
Hiking
Believe or not, there are tons of hiking trails in the Dayton area. To assist you in your search for the perfect hiking trail download the AllTrails app. If you simply type in your location into AllTrails, you will instantly be able to see all the nearby metropark trails organized by length, difficulty level, and rating. Some of my personal favorite nearby locations include Cox Arboretum Metropark and Twin Creek Metropark.
Greenhouse
Visiting a greenhouse is a great option for us Ohioians who have to deal with random snow showers in what was supposed to be springtime. I recommend the North Dayton Garden Center & Nursery located at 1309 Brandt Pike, Dayton, Ohio. There’s two things that made this greenhouse stand out to me. First of all, they have a cat who roams the store and is unbelievably adorable. Secondly, the garden center has the largest collection of bonsai miniature trees that I’ve ever seen. There are over 4,000 mini trees and even a section for mini pomegranate trees. With a cat and thousands of mini trees, this greenhouse is sure to brighten your day.
Luna Gifts & Botanicals
Visiting Luna Gifts & Botanicals in Oregon District is another great option for colder spring days as well as a great way to support a local business. Located at 261 Wayne Ave., Luna has a huge variety of plants and fun gifts. I honestly feel as if I could decorate my whole house shopping at Luna alone. Even if you just plan to window shop, Luna is sure to give you some exciting ideas for DIY projects.
Hot Tub with friends
I think one of the hardest parts of this semester is the lack of a spring break. Without the opportunity to head on vacation this spring, we are all desperate for a little warmth. Luckily, a trip to the University of Dayton Recplex hot tub provides a good illusion for being somewhere hot and tropical. This semester the hot tub has a two person limit, so make sure to bring your roommate along with you. Simply reserve a lane at the pool and enjoy the ability to take a dip in the hot tub as well.
I hope you are now equipped with a few ideas of how to spend your spring no matter if the weather gets warmer or if we experience more snow. As the flowers begin to bloom and the snow begins to melt, take this spring as a chance to start fresh and enjoy Dayton!
