The University of Dayton Men’s Soccer team (10-2-3) continues to make history. In the latest United Soccer Coaches poll, released November 5, the Flyers found themselves at No. 5, the highest ranking in program history.

This is the second straight week that the Flyers have made program Coaches poll history. Two weeks ago, the Flyers set their then-program record by reaching No. 15 in the poll for the first time in program history.

The Flyers’ resume more than backs up their ranking. The team holds wins over currently ranked No. 6 Indiana (10-4-5) and No. 10 West Virginia (11-1-6). The Flyers have also battled to hard-fought draws against No. 23 Western Michigan University (11-2-6) and No. 20 UMass (10-3-5).

Along with reaching the top five in the United Soccer Coaches poll, the Flyers also came in at No. 7 in the Top Drawer Soccer Top 25 and currently sit at No. 11 in the Rating Percentage Index (RPI), a metric used by the NCAA Selection Committee when it comes to seeding.

The Flyers carried their No. 5 ranking into the Atlantic 10 tournament, where they defeated seventh-seeded Davidson 1-0 beginning their quest to defend their title in the quarterfinal matchup on Nov. 8.

Even if the Flyers are unable to repeat as Atlantic 10 Tournament champions, they are still expected to make the NCAA Tournament. The NCAA Division I Men’s Soccer bracket will be announced on Nov. 18.
