UD welcomes two rookies for the 2022-23 season

As the new school year rolls around, new faces are stepping onto the community’s favorite basketball team. 

Mike Sharavjamts and Tyrone Baker are joining the Flyer family and gearing up to show out at UD arena this season. 

Sharavjamts comes from Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia and he is the first Mongolian citizen to earn a Division I athletic scholarship. 

He is the son of Sharavjamts Tserenjanhor, better known as the Mongolian Shark, who played for the Harlem Globetrotters after being discovered by Dale Brown at a basketball clinic in Mongolia. 

Sharavjamts represented Mongolia on the World Team at the 2022 Nike Hoop Summit. He was the first Flyer recruit to play in the summit, which features top high school players from the U.S. against the top international prospects. 

In 2018, Sharavjamts began his high school career at Legacy Christian in Xenia before moving to Napa, California to attend Prolific Prep his sophomore year. 

For his junior season, Sharavjamts returned home to Ulaanbaatar, joining the International Sports Academy program. 

Last season at the academy, he averaged 10.2 points, 4.6 rebounds and 3.6 assists in 24 games. 

Sharavjamts was the first player of the 2022 recruiting class to commit to Dayton where loyal fans were overwhelmed with excitement. 

Tyrone Baker is a 6-foot-9 transfer from the University of Georgia majoring in general studies. Baker was the first player off the bench in the Bulldogs season opener last year. 

Baker suffered an illness early on in the season and a broken hand in January causing him to receive limited playing time. 

Baker grew up with three sisters and is the son of Tyrone Baker Sr. and Shannon Young. 

He played two seasons of high school varsity basketball in Florida at Riverdale High School and finished his senior year in Texas at Hightower High School. 

Following his seasons at Riverdale, he was a finalist for Fort Myers News-Press Boys Basketball Player of the Year.

 In 2021, he led Hightower to a 17-3 record and its first district championship in 12 years.

Baker made his mark on high school basketball finishing his career scoring a total of 1,090 points and 735 rebounds. 

Each game he averaged a double-double of 15.8 points and 10.7 boards per game while shooting 63% from the field. 

The community is excited to welcome Baker and Sharavjamts to the Flyer family and are looking forward to seeing all they accomplish on campus.
