Cook ties her own career record in the Flyers’ 84-44 win over George Mason

The Dayton Flyers women’s basketball team defeated the George Mason Patriots 84-44 Saturday afternoon at the Dayton Arena.

The Flyers came into the game with an 11 game winning streak, hoping to secure another win, and did just that. They remain undefeated 9-0 in the Atlantic-10 Conference.

Sophomore Makira Cook had 11 points in the first quarter, helping to secure a 23-6 lead. Senior Kyla Whitehead had a layup with five minutes left, giving the Flyers a 17-0 lead and setting themselves up for success for the remainder of the match-off.

The Flyers’ defense played strongly, only allowing the Patriots to score 7 points in the second quarter, as well as securing 12 rebounds and 3 steals. UD had a stunning 14 points by turnovers, opposed to George Mason who had 0 turnover points. By the end of the first half, UD was up 43-13, leading by 30 points.

During the third quarter, redshirt senior Araion Bradshaw had a whopping 7 rebounds and 5 assists going into the media timeout. Cook tied her own career record with 29 points in the same quarter.

At the end of the third, Flyers were up by 40, holding down the UD stadium, with 64 points.

The fourth quarter gave every Flyer on the roster playing time. Freshman Anna LeMaster put herself on the stat sheet, securing her first assist and rebound. With 3:43 left in the game, the Flyers’ did not allow the Patriots to score any field goals. Dayton Flyers secured the win, 84-44.

The Dayton Flyers will play the Saint Louis Billikens up next Feb. 9 at noon at the Chaifetz Arena, aiming to defeat them to keep up their undefeated streak in A10 play.
