The Dayton Flyers men’s soccer team opened Atlantic 10 play with a 2-0 loss away from home at Saint Louis Saturday night, as the Billikens dominated shots taken and used quick goals in both halves to win comfortably.
The Billikens got the scoring started early on a diving header by junior midfielder John Klein in the third minute. With 10 shots taken to just one by the Flyers, the Billikens took a 1-0 lead into halftime.
Like the first half, the Billikens opened the scoring quickly in the second half, with a 48th minute corner kick partially cleared to Billikens redshirt freshman midfielder Christian Buendia, who fired a shot into the bottom left corner of the net from outside the box.
The final score was a 2-0 win for the Billikens, and the shot count was 19-6 in favor of the Billikens, as were shots on goal 7-2. The Billikens also finished with six corners compared to just one for the Flyers.
Dayton falls to 0-3 in regular season games (won both exhibition games), and will face Duquesne next in Pittsburgh, Penn., on Wednesday.
