In a post to his Instagram Monday morning, former UD basketball player Trey Landers announced he will begin his professional career in Germany for ratiopharm Ulm.
During his time at UD, Landers was one of the team’s glue guys along with Ryan Mikesell and was the heart of the 2019-20 team as a native son of Dayton.
Landers averaged 9.4 points and 6 rebounds per game over his four-year career, of which the last three he spent as a full-time starter, starting in 81 of 92 games.
For the Flyers, Landers often did the things that don’t show up on the stat sheet, like fighting for a loose ball, providing stout defense and being a true leader of the team.
On his post to Instagram, Landers said, “(I’m) excited to announce that I will start my professional career in Germany with @ratiopharmulm !! I am super excited and blessed to have this amazing opportunity with a great organization! (I) can’t wait to compete and start my professional career! All glory to the man above.”
The new team he is joining, ratiopharm Ulm, plays in the German Basketball Bundesliga and finished 10th in last year’s season, which was paused due to the COVID-19 pandemic and resumed with a soccer-style group phase before the top eight teams advanced to the quarterfinals, similar to the MLS is Back tournament.
Ratiopharm Ulm finished first in Group A (above last year’s champion Bayern Munich) and advanced to the semifinals, where they lost 165-156 to MHP Reisen Ludwigsburg.
Landers was a fan favorite at UD, being a hometown player, and will certainly have adjustments to face as he takes the first step in his professional career and moves across the Atlantic.
