Disney+ To Offer Old And New

The House of Mouse has big plans for November.

In less than two months, Disney’s new streaming service, Disney+, will be available for purchase on Nov. 12 in America and is currently available for pre-order. It will cost $6.99/mo. or $69.99/yr. It will feature movies and shows from Disney and the various companies they own, including Pixar, National Geographic and Marvel Studios.

TV viewers are continuing to turn away from traditional satellite and cable television in favor of apps and subscriptions that allow them to watch whatever they want whenever they want to. Over the past few years, the number of companies offering streaming services to compete with Netflix has expanded rapidly, including Hulu, Amazon Prime, HBO Now, Sling TV and DC Universe. Now, Disney is entering the game with a service that will provide both old and original content.

According to Attractions Magazine, dozens of movies will be available immediately for streaming including many classics such as “Cinderella” and “The Lion King,” largely forgotten films like “The Cat From Outer Space,” and Disney Channel originals such as the “High School Musical” trilogy. There will also be movies released exclusively on Disney+, such as the holiday themed “Noelle” starring Anna Kendrick.

Marvel Studios president Kevin Fiege is excited to incorporate new content on to the service. In addition to carrying the movies, TV shows will be introduced. Some will focus on brand-new characters like Moon Knight while others will star established characters like Hawkeye.

“It’s a totally new form of storytelling that we get to play with,” Fiege said in an interview with Variety.

Star Wars fans in particular have a lot to look forward to. In addition to having every film available, Disney+ will also carry the animated TV series, adding an eagerly-awaited season of “The Clone Wars,” and introducing a live action series, “The Mandalorian,” according to SyFy Wire. Later, Exclaim shared that a series about Rogue One character Cassian Andor will be filmed as will an Obi-Wan series with Ewan McGregor returning to the title role.

“It feels so nice to say,” said McGregor, who had longed to play the Jedi again.
