Domino’s Near UD No Longer 24/7

For nine years, there was always one place that University of Dayton students could always rely on to be open at any time: the UD Domino’s Pizza store off of Irving Avenue and Wilmington Avenue that was open 24/7. However, this summer, the UD Domino’s has decided to end its 24/7 hours, while still being open until 4 a.m.

In 2010, Tristan Koehler, franchise owner of 19 Dayton-area Domino’s stores including the UD Domino’s, chose to leave the UD Domino’s store open 24/7, making it the first 24-hour Domino’s in North America.

“We wanted to sell as much pizza as possible and we knew that UD students are always hungry,” Koehler said.

Over those nine years, UD students knew they could call Domino’s at any time, no matter how late, and expect a pizza to be delivered to their house or apartment. However, as the years went by, Koehler began to realize how much pressure was put on his labor force and on his resources by the 24/7 hours.

“The cost and supply of workers is very tight in today’s economy. We had to prioritize where we were allocating our labor resources,” Koehler said.

There are no more Dayton-area Domino’s stores that are open 24 hours and, in fact, there are few 24/7 Domino’s remaining in North America, Koehler said. Although Domino’s may no longer be open 24 hours, they open early at 9 a.m. each day and stay open until the early hours of the morning.

“We are open until 4 a.m. every night so we believe we can satisfy just about everybody who wants fast, hot, dependable pizza delivery,” Koehler said.

Additionally, there are a number of other late-night options for UD students. Cousin Vinny’s Pizzeria on Wayne Avenue is open until 3 a.m. daily. Right across the street from Cousin Vinny’s is Tank’s Bar & Grill that is open until 2:30 a.m. daily and offers classic pub food, such as burgers and sandwiches. Also, right on Brown Street are several stops that many UD students love to eat at: Milano’s Pizza and Subs, Rusty Taco, and Buffalo Wild Wings. All of these options are commonly open late into the early morning hours and offer some great cuisine to fill customers’ appetites.

The UD Domino’s reliable 24/7 schedule may be gone at least for now. However, Domino’s and other local restaurants can still be relied upon for a late-night bite in the early morning hours.
