Flyer Fans Get Ready, Dayton Football Is Back

Flyer fans get ready, Flyer football is debuting this weekend! Coming off of a 6-5 2018 campaign that saw the Flyers go 5-3 in Pioneer Football League (PFL) play, they will be on the hunt to improve and make a run at the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) playoffs as in years past.

The Flyers open up on the road at Indiana State, which is ranked 14th nationally in the FCS (the highest ranked team the Flyers have ever played). The Flyers are set for a 1 p.m. kickoff on Saturday.

Glancing at this Flyer football team, it’s evident that much of the marquee talent from last season will be returning. Despite the loss of all-time leading rusher Tucker Yinger, the Flyers return two of three statistical leaders on offense in redshirt sophomore quarterback Jack Cook and senior wide receiver Adam Trautman.

“Were optimistic, we have a big senior class so we’re looking forward to building on our leadership and experience this season,” senior safety Tim Simon said.

Many of you may have noticed that Dayton is a week late to the football scene, with much of the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) college football opening up last weekend. The Flyers are chomping at the bit to get back on the field.

“We’re itching to get out there, we have a lot of talent on this team and we are itching to get out on the field against someone else,” senior wide receiver Kyle Butz said. 

Despite opening up the season on the road against a highly ranked opponent, the Flyers will look to solidify the mantra that they have carried with them throughout camp: “Got Grit.” According to Head Coach Rick Chamberlain, this is what we can expect from this year’s Flyer football team. Grit.
