Practicing yoga is a wonderful journey that brings you peace of mind as well as a great form of exercise to your life. There are numerous amounts of yoga studios in Dayton that offer classes for everyone no matter what level you are. Even though there are so many studios out there, the classes can get a little repetitive or even a bit boring. If you want to spice your practice up once a month, Warped Yoga at Warped Wing brewery is the place to go.

Warped Wing brewery is known for their delicious hand-crafted beers and iconic industrial aesthetic that make this brewery one to hit when you’re spending a night downtown. In the recent years, Warped Wing has opened up to the Dayton community and has different events that appeal to a variety of people. Warped Yoga is one of these events and is offered once a month on a Sunday. The tickets are 15 dollars and the class begins at 11:00 a.m. By purchasing a ticket, you will receive an hour yoga class and one free alcoholic or non-alcoholic beverage of your choice. Yoga mats are not provided so you will need to bring your own.

This St. Patrick’s day I decided to start my celebration at this event and I must say it was the best choice I could have made. Yoga is such a great way to wake up your mind and body and get you ready for your day; mixing this with your favorite beer makes for an even better beginning to your day.

Since Warped Wing is obviously not a yoga studio, there are lots of sounds bouncing off the walls during your flow. However, I did not find this too distracting because our instructor helped ease my mind and keep my breathing on track with helpful suggestions throughout the class. Staying on track with your breathing is very important for the mental aspect of your yoga practice and to have an instructor keep that in line way very helpful in this abnormal space for yoga.

Speaking of abnormal space, I would highly recommend arriving at least fifteen minutes early to claim your mat space. Since this event has been getting more and more popular, more and more people are getting tickets which makes spacing a little tight. Your mats will be side-by-side with the other yogis there so it is inevitable that you will bump hands with your neighbor. Try not to let this take away from your practice; by taking a step behind or in front of your neighbor can help you avoid hitting each other.

This class is meant for all levels, beginners to advanced yogis. I have been practicing yoga for over a year now and I found it to be more of an intermediate flow but still doable for beginners. The main thing to keep in mind it to not let flexibility or the lack there of, get in the way of your flow. Listen to your body and take breaks when you need to.

This yoga class was a refreshing way to start my day and the beer afterwards took the experience to another level. Sunday is a day for relaxing and mixing yoga with beer can only result in ultimate relaxation, which is the perfect way to end or begin your week.
