Butter Cafe Co-founder Dies From Suspected Overdose

The co-founder of Butter Cafe, a popular Brown Street eatery among UD students, was found dead of a suspected overdose on Sunday, Feb. 10.

Sarah Dudley was found by her business partner Amy Beaver in an apartment above the restaurant.

Dudley was discovered with her boyfriend David Duncan, Butter Cafe’s former kitchen manager, who was revived with Narcan.

According to police, seven capsules containing an unknown substance were found in the apartment. However, the official cause of death has not been ruled.

Her funeral was on Feb. 16.

Dudley and Beaver co-founded Butter Cafe in 2010. Dudley was a graduate of the Ohio State University.

In a statement given on Feb. 12, Beaver said, “Sarah was a dear friend and large part of our lives and will be missed. “

She also offered prayers for Duncan and said Butter Cafe will remain open and operate under normal business hours.
