Flyer News is proud to announce that our Director of Digital Media, sophomore computer engineering major Christian Cubacub, created two videos that received top prizes from the College Media Association’s Film Festival. His wins were announced at the National College Media Convention, which took place in Louisville, KY from Oct. 25-28.

College students create videos that are then judged by media professionals in the national competition.

Cubacub’s video “Kaitlin Gawkins Grasshopper Research,” which features the work of senior biology major Kaitlin Gawkins (also FN’s online editor), won first prize in the “Feature Video” category.

His video “Nicaragua Ethos International Breakout” earned third place in the “Long Documentary” category. It features footage from a 10-day trip Cubacub took with the engineering department to Nicaragua. Cubacub was particularly excited by this video.

“I like this one a lot because of the amount of work I put into it,” he said. “I’m very proud of the cinematography in this video. It takes on a different style compared to usual documentaries. There’s an emphasis on immersive sound and visuals.”

This video also was featured in a university blog post.
