Ask what you can do for your country

In one of the most historic mid-term elections in United States history, the people of America have taken a stand. A stand against big government, a stand against raising taxes and a stand against liberal policy. Together, they now stand united.
For the past six years, the people of this country were promised change through liberal policy and bigger government.
They were told government would make things better, government would create jobs, government would stimulate the economy and that government would protect our borders. As it often happens, government failed.
The American people have realized this and have collectively voiced their apprehensions Tuesday.
Perhaps now more than ever, the American people have clearly seen through the failed policy that President Reagan so adamantly preached against. That government is not the solution to our problems; government is the problem.
With the ceaseless stalemate in Congress between Democrats and Republicans, America had a decision to make.
Left or right? America chose the right. However, this election was more than Democrat versus Republican, left versus right; this election was about the government versus the people.
The path our country was headed down was one of government rule over the people: rule by force, executive action and forced policy. We the people have altered this course with the power of our votes.
The people of this great country have fulfilled their duty as outlined in the Declaration of Independence:
“That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, — That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it.”
The country is now united, however, there is no time to applaud. Our elected officials must now take quick and decisive action to govern and not to quarrel.
This Congress may very well be one of the most important in our history. The people have spoken. They are calling for a balanced budget, border security, job creation, lower taxes and the repeal of the Affordable Care Act.
It was men like Thomas Paine, Thomas Jefferson and John F. Kennedy who believed the people, not the government, could resolve conflict when it arose.
Their faith in mankind is something every one of our leaders should aspire to have. Our greatest weapon we have at our disposal is free people pursuing their individual dreams.
Make no doubt about it; the United States is at a turning point in its history. We now have the means to alter the end. Will our elected officials, both Democrat and Republican, step up to the challenge? Will they answer the country’s call to action?
As J.F.K. said, “Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country.”
