Sophomore Forward Accused of Assault

University of Dayton men’s basketball sophomore forward Devon Scott is facing misdemeanor assault and domestic violence charges in Dayton Municipal Court, according to a Monday, April 7 report from WDTN.

Charges were filed against Scott April 3, per court records.

WDTN reports the incident occurred between Scott and his girlfriend, Keonna Austin, on April 1 at Caldwell Apartments. The station said they were in an argument before she was dragged out of the building.

Scott and Austin had a child together Feb. 2.

University officials released an official statement about the incident Monday.

“University of Dayton public safety presented misdemeanor charges against Devon Scott, a student-athlete, to the Dayton Municipal Court,” the statement said. “Due to federal privacy laws, the University cannot release any additional information. Devon Scott has been removed from team activities, pending resolution of these misdemeanor charges. He remains enrolled in school and will focus on his academics and this situation as his priorities.”

The case is scheduled for arraignment on April 14 at 10 a.m., per court records.

Scott appeared in 35 games for Dayton this season with seven starts. He averaged 3.4 points and 2.7 rebounds. He scored six points in a win over Stanford University in the regional semifinals of the NCAA tournament March 27. UD advanced to the Elite Eight for the first time since 1984.
