ArtStreet came alive Feb. 1 as students flooded the ArtStreet Cafe to share in Thursday Night Live.

The room was packed and every seat taken as Olivia Thomakos opened with “We’re Going To Be Friends” by The White Stripes on guitar. Thomakos shared that the song was one her brother used to play on the first day of school.

Further in the evening, she was joined by friends Brooke Davis, ukulele, and Carter Spires, guitar.

After Thomakos, Blake Bergere, guitarist/vocalist for local band The Daytimers, followed on guitar, performing a self-written song for his sister’s wedding.

“The love she’s found doesn’t come around every single day, but good Lord she’s found it in every single way,” he sang.

Later, Bergere displayed strong vocal control on “Valerie” and finished with “Tennessee Whiskey.”

Jess Bullock, the final performer of the night, started out her set on piano, hands flying across the keyboard. As the night dwindled, she pulled out her guitar and played a piece she wrote about El Salvador, blending Spanish and English lyrics within the piece.

“Looking away helps us survive, but is that the life we should live?” she sang, calling listeners to action.

Every week from 8-10 p.m., musicians, bands, or soloists are welcome to take to the stage to share their talent with the UD community.
