Crime Log - April 25, 2006


The following incidents were reported to the Department of Public Safety between April 9 and April 19. This log was compiled by Flyer News from actual police reports obtained from the Department of Public Safety.

Criminal Damaging

April 9, 10:50 a.m.

Officer Foreman was dispatched to Lowes Street concerning damage to a vehicle. The complainant stated an unknown person threw beer bottles into her black 2002 Hyundai Accent GL. The bottles broke the front right window and remained in the car after the incident. The complainant stated that she parked her vehicle on Lowes Street at about 11 p.m. on April 8 and noticed the damage to her vehicle at 10:45 a.m. on April 9. No items were reported stolen. There are no suspects at this time.

Petty Theft

April 9, 3:19 p.m.

Officer Foreman met with a complainant in the S2 parking lot concerning theft and damage to a vehicle. Between the hours of 1:15 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., the left rear window on his green 1992 Ford Probe was broken and the stereo was removed. Upon further investigation, it appears as if someone punched the driver's side door and unlocked it with a screwdriver or similar device. There are no suspects at this time.

Theft

April 10, 3:13 p.m.

Officer Russell contacted a UD student in response to a complaint of unauthorized purchases made on a Campus OneCard. On March 25 the complainant's room keys and OneCard were misplaced around 12 a.m. and were not reported missing at that time. On April 10 the student renewed her card and found a balance of $1.13. An unknown suspect made purchases of approximately $130 from the meal plan and Flyer Express account. The room keys are still missing.

Criminal Trespass

April 11, 10:21 a.m.

Officers Russell and Pease were dispatched to the Marianist Hall bookstore in response to a suspicious female trying to steal books. The officers stopped the woman walking out of the bookstore towards a green 1994 Lincoln Mark VIII in G lot, where she stated she was looking for bargain books. On previous occasions bookstore employees noticed the woman moving books or trying to remove their shrink wrap. The woman was issued a Criminal Trespass Warning and transported off campus to Brown Street.

Grand Theft Auto

April 13, 5:22 a.m.

Officer Pease was dispatched to the College Park Center in reference to a stolen vehicle. A white 1994 Chevy Silverado Truck belonging to the Alpha Omega Cleaning Service was parked at the intersection of Caldwell Street and Brown Street when it was reported missing. Two Alpha Omega employees parked the vehicle and placed the keys in the Alpha Omega Office located in the College Park Center. There was no broken glass or other indications that the vehicle had been broken into. No items of value were in the vehicle. The words Alpha Omega Cleaning Service are on both doors and on the rear tailgate.

Arson

April 19, 12:21 a.m.

Officers Zoerb and Pease were dispatched to Irving Avenue in reference to a couch on fire in a back yard. Dayton Fire Department Ladder 11 was also dispatched to put out the fire after a fire extinguisher was unsuccessful. The complainant stated she noticed the couch on fire and called 911 immediately. Three residents stated they did not see who started the fire or who set the couch in the back yard. There are no known suspects at this time.
