Crime Log - February 24, 2006


The following incidents were reported to the Department of Public Safety between February 14 and February 21. This log was compiled by Flyer News from actual police reports obtained from the Department of Public Safety.

Petty Theft

February 14, 11:48 a.m.

Officer Arnold met with a UD student at the Marianist Hall Bookstore on a report of a theft. The complainant stated that between approximately 11:30 a.m. and 11:35 a.m., an unknown person removed his gray Jansport book bag from a cubby hole. The bag, valued at $50, contained a Bible, valued at $20; a Business Ethics textbooks, valued at $40; a calculator, valued at $10; and a notebook valued at $10. The camera surveillance video at the time of the theft showed a female suspect, approximately 5'5' with brown hair and blond highlights, and two male accomplices.

Theft

February 14, 2:15 p.m.

Officer Arnold responded to Lawnview Apartments on a report of a theft from a Coca-Cola vending machine. He met with the complainant, who stated that when he arrived at Lawnview Apartments to make a vending delivery, he found that a large amount of money was missing from the coin machine that controls the release of twenty-ounce bottles from the vending machine. He estimated that the missing money came to approximately $200. The complainant showed Officer Arnold the special key he uses to gain entry into the machine. He stated that the keys are relatively easy to produce with the right knowledge and machining tools. The machine appeared to be opened using a key rather than forced entry. There are no known suspects or witnesses at this time.

Criminal Trespass

Public Intoxication

February 19, 2:14 p.m.

Officers Zoerb and Pease observed a male stumble while walking on the sidewalk on Evanston Street. Officer Pease recognized the male as a subject he had cited the previous day for public intoxication in Virginia Kettering Hall. There was a strong odor of alcoholic beverage on or about the male, who was very unsteady on his feet and had difficulty keeping his balance. The officers transported the male to Virginia Kettering Hall, where he was issued a minor misdemeanor citation for public intoxication and a criminal trespass warning, and released to a sober friend who said that he would make sure the male left campus as soon as he was sober.

Burglary

February 21, 3:26 p.m.

Officer Russell was dispatched to Campus South on a report of a theft. The complainant stated that an unknown person entered his apartment sometime between 9 p.m. on Feb. 11 and 9 p.m. on Feb. 13 and took one PlayStation 2 and three games. These items were on the bottom shelf of the television stand in the living room. The complainant stated that he spent a significant amount of time searching the apartment from the items thinking he had misplaced them. There are no known suspects or witnesses at this time.

Theft

February 21, 4:57 p.m.

Sergeant Witte was dispatched to Lowes Street regarding a theft that occurred at a house on Kiefaber Street the previous Friday. He met with the complainant, who stated that she went to a party on Kiefaber Street on Friday, February 17. She arrived shortly before midnight and placed her coat and purse on the living room couch. Around 12:30 a.m., she found that someone had taken her Sony CyberShot digital camera, valued at $400, and $9 in cash from her purse. The offender left the complainant's ID card, credits cards and other contents. There are no known suspects at this time.
