Crime Log - February 10, 2006
The following incidents were reported to the Department of Public Safety between February 3 and February 5. This log was compiled by Flyer News from actual police reports obtained from the Department of Public Safety.Theft
February 3, 12:07 p.m.
Officer Russell was dispatched to Miriam Hall regarding the theft of a purse. He contacted the complainant, a UD staff member, who stated that an unknown person took her black Liz Claiborne purse that was under her desk in the far rear corner. She stated that she last saw her purse sometime between 10 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. and discovered it was missing at about 11:45 a.m. The purse contained a silver Verizon cell phone, several keys, a checkbook and a black wallet containing various credit and gift cards. There are no known suspects at this time.

February 3, 4:53 p.m.
Officer Jolly met with a UD staff member on the fifth floor of Marycrest Hall, where he was shown a swastika symbol written in red ink on the wall, next to which were the letters 'SWASTI KA' and 'KKK.' He was then approached by a UD student who stated that one of her residents had brought the drawings to her attention the previous day. Officer Jolly spoke with two female students who live on the fifth floor and asked them if they had seen anyone writing on the wall. The students both stated that the drawing had been on the wall since the beginning of November. He also spoke with a group of students who reside on the floor who had gathered in the hallway. All of them stated that they have seen the drawings since the beginning of November.
Criminal Damaging
February 4, 9:06 p.m.
Officer Fritz was dispatched to Woodland Avenue on a report of criminal damaging. He spoke with the complainant, who stated that he had returned home at approximately 4 p.m. and noticed damage to his black 1997 Chevy Monte Carlo. He stated that he had parked the vehicle at approximately 8 p.m. on February 3. He also stated that he had seen several males in the area on the night of February 3, but could not identify them or say that they were involved. The tailpipe of the vehicle had been pulled away from the frame of the vehicle and was lying on the ground. The tailpipe was still attached to the exhaust system, but the supports for the exhaust system appeared to be broken away.

February 5, 1:29 p.m.
Officer Foreman met with a UD student in Marianist Hall concerning the theft of a wallet. The complainant stated that while attending a party at the West Mansion, she left her purple Coach wallet, valued at $40, in her coat and went to the restroom. When she returned to her coat at about 11:45 p.m. on February 3, she noticed her wallet was missing. The wallet contained $30 in cash, her University of Dayton ID card, and a friend's driver's license. Also missing were the complainant's room and mailbox keys. There are no suspects at this time.

February 5, 8:02 p.m.
Officer Orrill was dispatched to the A parking lot on the report of a theft. He met with a UD student and his father. The student stated that he had parked the blue Jeep Cherokee in the lot at approximately 1 a.m. on February 5. He returned to his vehicle at approximately 8 p.m. to discover that his vehicle had been damaged and a pair of twelve-inch sub-woofers, valued at $500, had been removed from the rear of the vehicle. The driver's side door lock had been punched out, the window wing had been broken out, and the windshield was cracked on the left-hand side. Nothing but the sub-woofers was missing.
