Crime Log - October 17, 2008


The following incidents were reported to the Department of Public Safety between Oct. 5 and Oct. 9. This log was compiled by Flyer News from actual police reports obtained from the Department of Public Safety.

Criminal Damaging Oct. 5, 8:29 p.m.

Officer Ryan was dispatched to the S2 parking lot on the report of criminal damaging. The officer met with a UD student who said the passenger side mirror housing of their car had been broken off. Officer Ryan noticed that the word “Dick” had also been written in the dust on the hood of the car. The complainant said the damage occurred between 5 p.m. on Oct. 3 and 8 p.m. on Oct. 6.

Criminal Damaging Oct 5, 9:17 p.m.

Officer Pease was dispatched to Frericks Way on the report of a broken window. Upon arrival, the officer met with the complainant who led the officer to a window in the residence that had an approximately 12-inch hole. The student was unaware of when the damage occurred, but noticed the hole at 8:30 p.m. on Oct. 5. Maintenance was contacted to repair the damage. There are no known suspects or witnesses at this time.

Theft Oct 6, 3:22 p.m.

Officer Russell contacted a UD student to take a theft report. The student said someone took her purse at a party on Woodland Avenue. The purse was taken sometime between 10 p.m. and midnight on Sept. 27. The purse, a blue clutch valued at $35, contained the student’s ID card and the key to her residence. The student’s driver’s license was found in the front yard of the residence.

Burglary Oct. 6, 6:55 a.m.

Officer S. Durian was dispatched to a UD-owned residence on Lowes Street on the report of a burglary. The officer met with four UD students who said the front door was unlocked overnight. When they woke up they found several items missing, including a Nintendo Wii, Ion turntable, Playstation 2, and Rock Band controllers. Written statements were obtained from the residents.

Criminal Damaging Oct. 8, 8:47 a.m.

Officer Sipes met with a UD employee who said between 5 p.m. on Oct 6 and 7 a.m. on Oct. 7, the rearview mirror on the passenger side of his car had been broken off. The complainant said the car had been parked on Lawnview Avenue and discovered the damage later. The cost to repair the damage is estimated at $250 for parts and $200 for installation, totaling $450.

Petty Theft Oct. 9, 10:31 a.m.

Officer A. Durian was dispatched to the Bombeck Center on the report of a theft. The officer met with a UD employee who said a 4 ft. by 12 ft. sign advertising open enrollment for the center was missing from the fence. The sign had been locked by padlocks on the fence facing Stewart Street and Alberta Street and the locks remained. The cost of the sign is $450.
