Breaking: Ebony Gainey to Play Saturday

February 24th, 2011 by Jacob Rosen

University of Dayton senior Ebony Gainey will play her first and only game as a member of the women’s basketball team Saturday, Feb. 26, according to a report from ESPN.com.

ESPN’s Graham Hays broke the story yesterday, describing how Gainey will make her Flyer debut as a part of “Senior Day” against Fordham University at UD Arena at 2 p.m. A guard from Meadowdale High School in Dayton, Ohio, she yet to play in her Flyer career because of a crippling medical condition discovered just before her freshman season.

Brendan Hader, chief sports staff writer for Flyer News, chronicled her story a few weeks ago in an emotional player profile. There will be more on this development in FN’s upcoming coverage of Saturday’s regular season finale for the Flyers.
