Preview: Dayton vs. Xavier
The Matchup
Dayton's first game of the tournament comes against second-seeded Xavier. It will be the third meeting between the two teams, and a tiebreaker settled on a neutral court, as both teams won at their home arenas during the regular season.
When Dayton went to Xavier Jan. 16, the team delivered its best performance at the Cintas Center in a years, but still came up short as Xavier won 78-74.
When Xavier came to UD Arena, however, it was a one-sided affair. Dayton led throughout the game and came away with a 90-65 win over the Musketeers.
The rivals will now be looking to come out victorious in the rubber match and advance to the A-10 Tournament Semifinals. Xavier is 4-0 against Dayton in the A-10 Tournament, and knocked Dayton out in both 2007 and 2008.
Key Players
Keep an eye on sophomore Jordan Crawford of Xavier, who scored 16 in the Muskies' win in Cincinnati, including the game-clinching jumper with under 20 seconds left. Crawford was then the only Xavier player to have much success at UD Arena, scoring 24 points. Expect another strong performance from Crawford in tonight's game.
For Dayton, Chris Johnson's performance will set the tone. The sophomore forward has created matchup issues for Xavier in both meetings, averaging 14 points and 11 rebounds over the two games. If CJ can continue to cause problems for Xavier on defense, Dayton's chances of winning rise considerably.
