Flyer News has selected junior Emma Ellis as its 2013-2014 editor-in-chief.
Ellis, a communication major who currently serves as the business and advertising director, will officially take over as editor for issue 40, the final Flyer News issue of the year on April 23.
Ellis said she is looking forward to the chance to serve as the Flyer News editor-in-chief.
“It feels good,” she said. “I’m excited. A little nervous, kind of anxious. I’m thrilled. I’m excited for what’s in store for next year and for what’s to come.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity to serve the UD community in this way. I look forward to what’s to come in a year.”
Chris Moorman, the current editor-in-chief and a senior communication major, said Ellis has many qualities that will make her a great editor and that her business background will help Flyer News move on to the next stage of its history.
“Emma is a true leader and has helped Flyer News tremendously with her work on the business side,” Moorman said. “She and her staff helped us stay afloat when the economy tanked and now Flyer News is doing much better than a lot of other papers in the advertising department.”
Ellis said she has some changes in mind for next year with more of an emphasis on flyernews.com and Flyer News’ social media accounts. She also wants to continue the Flyer News tradition of a quality print product.
“My goals for next year are to have excellent content with great quality writing,” Ellis said. “I hope that people pick up the paper and, of course, visit our website and check out the stories there.”
